Nicola Canestrini

Advisory Board Member

Nicola Canestrini is an Italian criminal defence lawyer since 2001 and the managing partner of CanestriniLex law firm. His work mainly covers Italian and European criminal law and Italian criminal defence, with a particular focus on extradition and cross border, human-rights related criminal cases.

Among others, he has been visiting professor at the University of Ferrara, where he lectured on human rights and international humanitarian law. Nicola has been chair of the regional criminal bar association, and is currently a member of the European Criminal Lawyer Association, the Extradition Lawyers Association, the International Criminal Bar and the European Criminal Law Observatory of the Italian Union of Criminal Lawyers. Since 2016, he is the coordinator of the “Endangered Lawyers” project, which collects and disseminates information about threatened lawyers across the world.

In addition to extensive in-court experience, he contributes to several law reviews and is a member of the Editorial Board of the Italian law journal Giurisprudenza Penale.
