Overview

Fair Trials is the global criminal justice watchdog.

We identify when criminal justice is failing.

We alert the world problems.

We resolve these issues, working with the best global experts.

Fair Trials comprises Fair Trials International a registered charity (No 1134586) and registered with limited liability (No 7135273) in England and Wales; Fair Trials Europe, a registered public foundation in Belgium (No 0552.688.67); and Fair Trials Americas, a registered 501(c)(3) public charity in the United States of America (No DLN17053243307017)

When referring to us, it would be great if you could call us Fair Trials, rather than any of our longer names. Injustice doesn't know boundaries, so neither do we. Also, it stops us from getting competitive between offices.

Topics we can provide expert opinion on within criminal justice include:

  • the right to a fair trial across the world and what happens without it
  • how people can understand and defend their rights, wherever they are and whatever they have done
  • how we campaign for fair and effective criminal justice systems
  • EU Defence Rights, including the presumption of innocence and the right to a lawyer
  • Justice in Europe by country in relation to European Court of Human Rights
  • Effective extradition laws to help fight cross border crime – extradition reform and the European Arrest Warrant
  • The unjustified use of pre-trial detention and issues surrounding this including the prevalence of inhumane conditions in Europe’s prisons
  • INTERPOL and the abuse of its systems around the world to persecute refugees, journalists and peaceful political demonstrators
  • Torture – specifically the role which the right to a fair trial and procedural safeguards have to play in preventing torture in the context of counter-terrorism initiatives
  • The global spread of plea bargaining

We can also in some circumstances provide you with access to people directly affected by the issues raised above.
